OPTIMUM Coach

I was born and grew up in Japan. I was not an athlete in my young ages. I played baseball in a little league and did many kinds of recreation sports (tennis, golf, surfing, skiing, etc.) but did not get involved in any competitive sports until I started Karate when I was 29 years old. Karate immediately became my passion. I received my black belt 3 years later and then started competing in various tournaments where I was the oldest and the lightest fighter in most of the cases. The highlight of my career as a competitor was becoming the 2nd place in the lightweight division of 2010 World Sabaki Challenge held at Denver, CO. I also started my coaching career as a branch chief and head instructor of Enshin Karate Irvine for 7 years (2004-2011). I got exposed to CrossFit when one of my friend posted a Youtube video of 2011 CrossFit Games on Facebook. I immediately started seeking for a CrossFit box to train and it became my new passion. In the same time, I started running various long-distance races following CrossFit Endurance methodology. My most recent and second highlight of athletic accomplishment is finishing 100K (62 miles) ultra-marathon race in Japan.
I decided to pursue my new career as a CrossFit coach on 2016. I would like to share my experiences with people in broad generations and help them improve their fitness. My credentials include:
• CrossFit L1 Trainer
• CrossFit Kids Certificate
• CrossFit Weightlifting Certificate
• CrossFit Anatomy Certificate
• CrossFit Scaling Certificate
• CrossFit Aerobic Capacity Certificate
• Power Speed Endurance Run Methods Certified (formerly CrossFit Endurance)
• CPR /AED Certified (American Red Cross)

I have always been conscious of staying physically active, from playing soccer and running Track and Field in High School and going to the gym regularly at California State University, Long Beach. My interests and knowledge of exercise have expanded greatly as I am soon to be completing my bachelors of science in Kinesiology. I hope to take what I have learned both from academics and my CrossFit Level 1 certificate course to help others learn and effectively take control of their health and well-being. I have been following CrossFit since 2012 and was hooked right away because I love the idea of excelling in all aspects of physical fitness. Not having enough time to join a CrossFit gym, I began doing my own workouts in my backyard with the few pieces of fitness equipment that I had, until recently when I found OPTIMUM CrossFit. OPTIMUM CrossFit has not only allowed me to improve my physical fitness everyday, but also the people here are so kind and welcoming I now have a home away from home and friends that will last a lifetime. CrossFit has changed my life for the better and has helped me improve as a person both physically and mentally. I have so much excitement to share these possibilities with the members of our community and helping them reach their greatest potential in healthy living.

There has never been a time in my life in which I did not care in some way about being fit, although in my youth it was perpetuated mainly from sport and unorganized activity, as opposed to targeted training with a purpose. I grew up playing football, basketball, and baseball, along with any other sport I was invited to try, and I usually enjoyed every one. In high school, I narrowed that field down to basketball, football, and track and field.
After high school I maintained my fitness through basketball and traditional lifting. In 2010 I joined the US Army Infantry, where I served for five years, deploying to both Iraq and Afghanistan. While in the Army I learned the importance of being a well-rounded and well-prepared athlete, capable of performing odd tasks in the most dire of circumstances. I discovered, through much experimentation on my own, that CrossFit was far-and-away the best way to keep myself both mentally and physically prepared for the challenges presented to me during my service.
In the beginning I watched videos during every free second I had, and once I began to see results and obtained a firm grasp of the concept and movements, I began teaching my squad and platoon mates who in-turn became addicted. CrossFit not only turned my squad mates into physically elite athletes, but also made us mentally fortified human beings, and lessened the effect of unfortunate events that occur in a career in the military. Upon my departure from the military, I obtained my Level 1 Trainer Certificate, and began searching for a way to help others find what I have: CrossFit instills both an incredible physical preparedness and strong mental control in one’s body, which begets confidence in all areas outside of the box as well.
